Water Temperature:
We aim to keep the pool water temperature at around 26°C throughout the season

Water Source and Processing:
Water is drawn from a natural spring well and then heated by a heat exchanger, which is like a reverse radiator. The pool water passes through a tube which is contains small pipes filled with hot water from the heating boiler and draws the heat from it. Chemicals are added to the water to remove any bacteria in line with government and Swim England guidelines. The children's play pool uses the same methods for heating and cleansing.

Pool Capacity:
The pool takes 375 cubic metres or 82,500 gallons of water, taking 3 days to fill at the start of the season.

Pool Length:
The main pool is 27.5 metres long

The pool is open from mid-May until mid-September. We are open from 7am to 7pm from Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm on Saturdays and 9am to 6pm on Sundays. There are different sessions each day, so please check the ‘Pool Timetable’ for details of each day's sessions.

Why are you not open all year round?

A) Cirencester Open Air Swimming Pool is run and maintained entirely by volunteers in their spare time. Lifeguards are the only people we employ. The majority are university/college students who are only available outside of term time. We just do not have the resources available to open the pool all year round. In addition, the cost of heating the outdoor pool during the colder months would be prohibitively expensive against any revenue we could generate outside the late spring and summer months.

Can my children come to the pool on their own?

Yes, if they are over 11 years of age

Is there a children's pool?

Yes. We have a Children's play pool which is open during 'family' swim sessions, General, 'Drop in' and Parent & Toddler. The children's pool is heated to the same temperature as the main pool (around 27°C).

Bringing children to the Pool

If you are bringing children to the pool, you need to consider the following

  • Children Under 4 years of age: 1 adult to 1 child
  • Children 5 - 8 years: 1 adult to 2 children
  • Children 8 -12 years: No adult supervision, providing the child is a competent swimmer. However, an adult is required on site.

Our policy: Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied in the pool and on the poolside by an adult over the age of 16. One adult can accompany two children. The accompanying adult should maintain a constant watch over any children or weak/non-swimmers within their care in the pool, in the changing areas and on the poolside. They should remain in close contact (including in the water) at all times.

Examples:

  • If you have a newborn baby and a 3-year-old, you would require 2 adults swimmers in the pool at all times
  • If you have a 5-year-old and 6-year-old, you will require 1 adult swimmer in the pool at all times
  • If you have a 5-year-old and a child under 4, you will need 2 adult swimmers in the pool at all times
  • If you have a 5-year-old and 8-year-old, you would still need one adult in the pool with the 5-year-old.
  • If you have children aged 8 and 10, they can swim without an adult, providing they are competent swimmers. However, an adult must be present on site with them.

Do I need to pay to come in to the pool with my child if I am not swimming

Yes, all people including spectators to the pool have to purchase a ticket.
